The Pajama Game
After Corey's surgery, his moms felt it was a good idea to leave him in pajamas for the week. Since he had to stay indoors and not rough house, being in pajamas kept him more calm.
We've prided ourselves that four parents have really never had a disagreement on how we raise this little boy. Things seem to always work themselves out.
We do, however, find that we get confused by some things along the way.
A few months ago, we were getting Corey ready for bed. Off come the clothes, on go the pajamas. He started putting his pj's on over his underwear. "Dude, take off your underwear and then put on your pants," I said.
"But I wear underwear to bed at mama's house," he explained.
Really? Huh, another parenting difference. This is where I think we mess with the kid more than anything. Routines are one thing, but who ever thought we should coordinate to be similar on this?
When his moms came to pick him up, we told them the underwear story.
"He always wears underwear to bed under his pajamas," one of them said. "Isn't what everyone does?"
"I dunno, I always just put my pj's on without underwear," I responded. "But now I sleep in the nude."
Awkward pause.
"Okay, I didn't realize it was sharing time" one of them said.
(And yet for some reason, I just kept talking.)
"Well, I used to wear underwear to bed, but a few years ago, I just got too hot under the sheets. Larry said I've gone through the change."
In case you're wondering, yes, that is a complete discussion stopper.
So audience participation part, what do you sleep in?
(This would be ideal if Blogger had a survey option, so instead just leave your answer in the comment section.)

I'm okay with sharing!
What I sleep in depends on the weather. During the summer, I'll either be nude or in a strap tank and a pair of undies. In the winter, I'll wear either a tee shirt or a long-sleeved tee and undies. When I'm wandering around the house, I'll have jammie pants on, but they come off before I climb into bed or I get all tangled up in them.
I'm of the opinion that it doesn't really matter what you wear to bed (if you wear anything at all). Let the baby decide...
Starkers for the past 17 years . . . which is ironically how long I've had the same bedmate. Maybe it's his habits that have worn off on me; that and he is a furnace!
He he he We've had this conversation more times than it appropriate to admit. We sleep in boxers, only because I have this fear of the house catching on fire and having to run out. Completely irrational but you know if you're rushing out will you think to get dressed?
I used to be a furnace and it got so bad that Hubby could barely snuggle up at night. My accupunturist treated it and oila! No more nighttime furnace.
I wear a night gown sans underwear. Hubby wears boxers. However if there is a foster child in the house I am allowed to leave the room with my nighty and he is obligated to put on a robe.
My son likes to wear his underwear under his pajamas. I've tried to convince him to go without them, but I guess he likes to feel all snug and in place.
I wore actual pajamas until I was about 30 and my wife bought me some boxers with little hearts all over them. During the summer I'll just wear those, but during the winter I need some long sleeping pants and a t-shirt.
Oh, and "I just got too hot under the sheets..."
Are you bragging? :)
I sleep in the bed--whichever one Mama's in.
When we went on vacation with in-laws a couple years ago, I found out that my nieces sleep in underwear under their pajamas. (It was discussed somehow, I didn't see it.) Before that I'd never even heard of anyone wearing underwear with pajamas.
I used to sleep naked but since Clare started crawling into bed sometimes in the morning I wear boxers.
Underwear. Unless it is really cold. Then I will wear sweatpants.
Nude. Naked. In the buff, I hate wearing anything to sleep. Been sleeping that way since I was 17.
Both me and my wife sleep nude, but as our son grows up we're trying to figure out how we can stay nude and not freak our son out when he climbs into bed with us.
My sleeping uniform:
Loose shorts
Loose t-shirt
No socks but underwear is a must.
I guess I need things in a more "controlled" environment.
Usually a tank top and underwear in the summer and flannel panta and a sweatshirt in the winter. Underwear optional.
Me starkers always, DH and 3 kids ditto. I came from a home where nightwear was regarded as an unnecessary intrusion into sleeping comfort - both my parents habitually slept nude and I was introduced to the habit once I was reliably dry at night. DH started in his pre-teen years. Being both committed nocturnal nudists when we got married, it seemed to obvious thing, both to continue (would there have been any other realistic option) and to introduce our kids to the benefits of sleeping nude once they were reliably dry at night.
We sleep in the altogether.
'cept if it's real cold; then we bust out the flannel. In California. Yes, I am aware this makes us wienies -- and not in the good way.
i sleep naked, i seem to sleep and rest more all through the night. when it's cold i just wear shorts
I sleep nude when I can. When I can't (which is when I think I'll be woken up by my parents) I sleep in boxers. I perfer sleeping nude because i find it comfortable as well as relaxing.
I always believed that men never wear underwear under their pajamas until I met someone who did and when I told him that's weird, he never wore undies underneath anymore since. Why would you wear a funky underwear that you've worn all day to bed? That being said, I never wear my day-old undies to bed. The undies go off when I change to my comfy pajamas in the evening. It's always cold in San Francisco at night and I like getting cozy in bed in my pjs (only in silk or 100% egyptian cotton, solid or striped) plus I can lounge around the house in them, pick up the paper, water the plants, etc. without scaring the neighbors. I see kids nowadays wearing their pajamas to the mall or even in schools....which is quite unacceptable but they should be wearing undies if they wear them in public!
Anyway, most men nowadays sleep in their underwear (sometimes with an old t-shirt) or naked and wear pajamas only in winter, if they're sick, when they have guests, or staying at a friend's/relative's or in a hospital. Some i know don't even own a pair not even a pair of flannels!
