Checking in

Holy Crap, what a crazy 11 days.

First, thanks for all the kind words and wishes on the dog. It's been harder to go from 1 dog to 0 than it was losing the first. So many routines have vanished and it seems like we live at a foreign house. Luckily, we will be dog-sitting Barky for Papa Bradstein next week so it will still feel a little like we have a beagle back in our lives, even if just for a few short days.

Friday was my last day of class for the first year. I'm 50% done with this program. In true Finance fashion, I again scored the bottom grade on the test. This time I just laughed it off realizing that I can't be an expert in everything. I never really grasped the concept of this subject and we've had a financial advisor for years for this very reason.

Upon having our final grades returned, I promptly passed the 2nd Finance paper off. Our stupid team changed companies FOUR times, each time after I'd invest hours into analyzing their annual reports. Seriously, they are stupid fucks sometimes.

We (well math Dave) settled on Harris Corp. It turns out they are a military contractor...which is exactly what math Dave does for a living. Plus C, the Vietnamese woman on our team, works for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I'm thinking to myself that a membership director of a non-profit knows DICK about this and since I'm getting the lowest grades, why am I busting my hump doing this paper?

And it turns out I only need an 82 on the paper to get a B. Most of them need an 90+ to keep their A's. Have fun, team!

After a wonderful weekend with Corey, I flew out to Chicago on Wednesday for a 7-hour seminar. The seminar coordinated perfectly with my parent's anniversary (happy 42nd) dinner at their house, plus a nice overnight visit.

The next day (Thursday for those keeping track) I flew to Phoenix, meeting up with Larry. I have a conference there beginning Sunday, so we headed down to Tucson for three days of rest and relaxation. We haven't been here to visit our friends since 2006.

Today was amazing as we did nothing for the first time in 9 months. We drove up to Mount Lemmon and enjoyed the sites. There is nothing more leisurely than driving up to 8000 feet and looking down. The sites were gorgeous, even for someone who hates heights.

The best part was the Mount Lemmon Cafe which is so well known for its pies, that I split lunch with Larry in order to have a whole piece of this Apple Sour Cream pie. And yes, it was totally worth it.

After a quick stop at Trader Joe's to pick up dinner for the night, Larry and I relaxed by the pool and played backgammon. We're settling in for a quiet evening of watching TV.

The only bad part is that all our TIVO shows are at home. SIGH, sometimes it's tough to deal with such disappointment.

More tomorrow.

I'm glad that you consider yourself lucky for looking after Barky. I know he considers himself lucky to go visit his uncles. Safe travels, and if you send any more pictures of pie, I might have to fly out there myself.

I was WONDERING where you were! Travel happily and safely, my friend. And, um, I hope you brought another piece of that pie home for later. I bet it's fucking amazing.
