From iPod to Moving Pod
As most of you know (because you read my moving post over at Blogfathers), my folks bought a new house. I'm here in Chicago, moving the shit they should have throw out years ago things that have sentimental value into a POD to help clear out the house for it show better. To say this is going smoothly...ah fuck it, it's not. Plain and simple
True, I am one of the most critical people that inhabits the Northern Hemisphere, but I'm dying here. Item thus far that have moved from their original dusty caverns (but not necessarily into the pod):
‡24 Christmas cassettes
‡My father's 8mm movie projector
‡My grandfather's 8mm movie projector
‡A box of pantyhose (seems they've been discontinued)
‡My old beer can collection
‡Income taxes files since 1960
‡The Neil Diamond album collection
‡My old snow sled
‡Six kitchen cabinets (from when we renovated our kitchen... in 1979)
‡My grandfather's tackle box (we don't fish, btw)
‡Two bowling balls from 1968
‡65 purses (ladies, what is it with you and your handbags?)
‡Over 100 empty Cool-whip containers (did you know you can freeze spaghetti sauce in them?)
The winner:
‡ 24 cans of condensed milk (They were on sale.) Seriously at that point it was good my folks didn't own a firearm.
As of Noon today, the 8x12 pod is packed. We are now moving forward with packing other boxes of crap.
The realization that woke me up last night was that I will have to fly back and upack all this shit. God help me.

Maybe for a couple of bucks the pod people could lose it on the way to where it is going.
Having just shredded some tax returns from 1990, 1991 & 1992 that I came across while trying to clean out the "spare" bedroom, I implore you to be gentle with your parents. Some of that stuff you intend to get rid of after the right number of years, and then the years just get away from you.
Now my Husband, he intentionally keeps crap because he thinks "we might need it some day!" You know, I have never needed those english literature papers he wrote on a manual typewriter while he was in college. Never. Not once.
Please tell me that you took pictures. We helped my Mom clean out part of her garage a few years ago and we found all kinds of fun things, such as a bacon ironer.
Our new house has a full sized attic and a huge basement.... I'm a little afraid of the storage craziness that could ensue.
that's $7 million worth of stuff on eBay.
I found the cure for clutter. We sold the house we lived in for 20 years, and moved into a new home. I diligently packed everything and did an inventory of our belongings. We had a carport sale and made $3,000 selling items we knew we wouldn't need. We moved into our new house repainted the interior, bought all new living room furniture did all the landscaping, put in window covernings, installed solar screens, added stonework to the front facade, lined all the kitchen cabinets and filled them with my copious inventory of kitchen items (many items were donated to Goodwill at this time because I decided I didn't really need them). We looked at all our accomplishments and were satisfied. I only had two little boxes of knick knacks to unpack. Oh yeah, we celebrated Christmas in our new house.
We were in the house almost 8 months when significant other (hereinafter "the SOB") came home and said I've found a better house start packing we're moving. So I had to pack everything I just packed and unpacked. Well needless to say I was a lot less sentimental this time around and made many trips to Goodwill (and got rid of even more stuff). We hadn't sold our first new house when we took possession of our second new house so I told the SOB before we moved everything I wanted to paint the interior walls of the second new house. So we repainted the interior, put in new window coverings, had solar screens installed, landscaped the front and back yards, etc. Then we moved everything from the old new house to the new new house and I began unpacking everything I had packed, uppacked, packed, and was now going to unpack again. Needless to say I made more trips to Goodwill because all my cherished keepsakes started to look like just a bunch of crap. So we sold the old new house, and we have now been in the new new house for three years and I can truthfully say I got rid of a lot of stuff because packing and uppacking your belongings that many times makes you look at everything in a new light. I've also told the SOB I'd kill him if he makes me move again.
That's all I gotta say.
Thank you for your patience.
